The story of Jesus calming the storm is becoming one of my favorites. I mostly enjoy it because of the dialogue. When the disciples wake up Jesus because they’re freaking out thinking the storm is going to take their lives, they ask Him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” In Matthew 8:25 they’re recorded saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” Isn’t that the cry of every soul? We are all perishing and we all need saving. And the right question isn’t, “Lord, do you not care that we are perishing?” I think the cross is a sufficient answer to that question. The right question is: Do we care that we are perishing?
If we do, what are we doing about it?
